For Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas fanatics, Insomniac Events CEO Pasquale Rotella's Night Owl Radio Music Through Music livestream is the most anticipated day on the road to EDC. It's when Rotella reveals the lineup for Insomniac's flagship festival, stage by stage, through snippets of those artists' tracks mixed together in a roughly two-minute mix. Keen-eared listeners share their observations in the chat and dance music nerds piece together the roster on the night before the lineup flyer drops.
Those who tuned in on Wednesday evening likely have an idea of at least of handful of the confirmed artists. But Music Through Music is more than just a lineup unveiling. During the stream, Rotella updates the community on key additions, changes and other exciting elements that will come to fruition Under The Electric Sky at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With EDCLV 2025, from May 17 to 19, just over two months away, here are five takeaways from the Music Through Music livestream:
2025 theme: Metropolis
It's Music Through Music tradition to announce the 2025 EDC theme at the start of the livestream. Rotella revealed to a drumroll by Insomniac team members in his bedroom that it is: Metropolis. Following up last year's kineticCIRCLE theme that was a throwback to the epic kineticCATHEDRAL stage exactly a decade ago, Metropolis seems promising. Many past EDC themes have centered around grand ideas, like kineticAWAKENING, kineticENERGY and kineticZEN. Besides kineticCATHEDRAL and kineticCIRCLE, the accompanying kineticFIELD stages have often taken the form of an owl or a mythical woman.
The kineticMETROPOLIS theme seems more specific and suggests a cityscape design that breaks from the more nature-inspired designs of some of the years past. Whatever shape it ultimately takes, it's bound to be a spectacle at first sight.
Skrillex helped add an Afro house stage
In the most unexpected category, Rotella revealed that the iconic producer Skrillex approached him about adding a stage to EDCLV dedicated to Afro house – which is all the more surprising because it isn't the genre that Skrillex is known for producing. Rotella liked the idea and the new stage will be debuted at the speedway in May.
While initially appearing be a left-field move, it actually makes total sense. Afro house was a movement last year, with Berlin-based collective Keinemusik among those at the forefront and their track Move transcending the dance music community into the mainstream. Edmtrain named Afro house a 2024 top genre of the year for that reason, and creating a stage for it shows that Insomniac is staying at the forefront of the ever-changing dance music world. Thanks, Sonny!
wasteLAND stage hosting a hard techno night
The wasteLAND has long been home to Basscon, Insomniac's brand devoted to the genres of hard dance. The often industrial-looking stage is making room this year for one night of hard techno, which experienced a massive emergence last year and was named another 2024 top genre by Edmtrain.
It's another very appropriate move by Insomniac, which dedicated an entire stage to it during the one-day Countdown NYE 2024 in Southern California less than two months ago.
Time Warp taking over neonGARDEN one night
The neonGARDEN is where devotees to house and techno gather. Whether with our without a roof, the stage has consistently brought some of the most respected artists in the underground genres. Rotella announced that this year, the renowned techno festival Time Warp which originates in Mannheim, Germany, will have a one-day takeover.
For the two other nights, the hosts will be Insomniac's underground brand Factory 93 and the legendary Club Space Miami.
bassPOD 'farewell'
One of the most beloved stages at EDCLV is the bassPOD, which for bassheads is a church. For the past several years, the bassPOD has been literal pods arranged on the dancefloor that look as a whole like an industrial power plant. Spewing flames, the bassPOD is so intense that it has famously caught on fire momentarily. Well, Rotella made a bittersweet announcement that the bassPOD as it stands will be no more after this year.
The bassPOD isn't going away, but it's undergoing a redesign, so this year is the chance to say goodbye to make the last headbanging memories with the current configuration.
EDCLV 2025 is sold out, but you can still join the waitlist here.
