Suited in a straitjacket and dropping "Angry Shit Only", Emorfik has distinguished himself in the dubstep world as an artist who is unafraid of going to the dark corners of his mind and manifesting fury and intensity in his music. Emorfik, lesser known as Damiano Cortini, has been producing since he was a teenager in upstate New York and since claimed his spot in the biggest bass events including Lost Lands and Excision's Thunderdome. In 2024, he released his 'Project Containment' album with the tagline "uncover the truth within", and went on tour across the US. Emorfik has been featured as an Edmtrain Artist of the Week.
He's dedicated to making angry music but off stage, Emorfik is actually a really chill guy. Emorfik sat down with Edmtrain editor and writer Jessica Gail before his set at Racket NYC on November 30 and opened up about how his Project Containment vision has taken on a life of its own live, and what it was like getting body slammed in a mosh pit at one of his shows. He also dropped some hints on big collaborations he has on the horizon. Check out the video interview with Emorfik here and the full transcript below.
Edmtrain: Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to us.
Emorfik: Of course, of course.
Edmtrain: You're in the middle of the tour and you just went to Philly and now you're in New York.
Emorfik: Yeah.
Edmtrain: I know that you just got moshed in Philly, right? How was that?
Emorfik: Well, it was all good at first, but then I saw a man lunge towards me and just body me, and I honestly couldn't... It was amazing. It was great. I felt at home. Best time ever.
Edmtrain: After taking that impact, are you a little bit scared about doing it again or you're ready for it?
Emorfik: Honestly, I think I'm going to go for round two tonight, so we'll see what happens. Might get launched at again, so we'll see.
Edmtrain: How is the Project Containment Tour going for you so far?
Emorfik: Honestly, it is going so incredible, just to see all of the people who are...  because everyone who goes is super involved with the idea, especially there's been people dressed up in hazmat suits, and just like, you know, showing so much support towards this idea that we've had. And it's just so awesome to see that in person, because obviously online, people are like, I don't want to do this, but then to actually see people be a part of this idea is super, super sick. It's awesome. It's been great.
Edmtrain: Great. And what is the craziest thing you've seen on tour so far? Was it the mosh event or besides that, there's gotta be something else crazy.
Emorfik: There's been, honestly, like, just seeing people in hazmats, because like a hazmat suit doesn't seem like it, but it gets so incredibly hot, and just to see people who are in hazmat suits, it's just like, I don't know, it's just so incredible. It's like the idea of it is so sick. But probably the craziest so far has been the guy launching himself at me, honestly. Yeah, that's been fun.
Edmtrain: Are you originally from New York, or are you just based in New York?
Emorfik: So I'm actually from New York, but upstate New York, so I'm about four hours away from here, so yeah.
Edmtrain: OK, what does it feel like to play in the Big Apple, though?
Emorfik: Honestly, it is, I love it, because I've actually played here a number of times. And just each time, it's just like, it's so like, I don't know, it's just like, it's like a vibe that you don't really get in a lot of places, you know. Everyone here always stays up super late, and I'm always like, surprised at my set times, like, you stay up this late? And it's like, reminds me of Europe, just very late, late night people, which I love. So yeah, it's good, it's good to be back, super excited.
Edmtrain: We actually, Edmtrain recorded some of your Lost Lands set and people were super impressed by it. How was that for you?
Emorfik: It was, oh my god, it was a great time. Super hot this year, but honestly, so worth it. Making a main stage debut is so incredible, to finally have that insane experience. I remember seeing that when I was super young and going for the first time, just to finally be on that opposite side is such an insane honor. So it was incredible. It was absolutely incredible.
Edmtrain: I know you've had a lot of new music out. Are you working on anything new?
Emorfik: Of course. I've got tons of music coming out, collabs. I've got something I'm working with on Rated R. I've got some stuff with Sullivan King. I've got one with Ghastly. Super awesome names and I'm super excited to show them to you guys.
Edmtrain: Super excited to hear them. Anything else you want to say to Edmtrain fans or fans who came out to your shows tonight?
Emorfik: Of course. I just want to say thank you to the Edmtrain fam. You guys have always shown support since I started and I just appreciate you guys so much and I hope everyone who watches this has a great day. Thank you so much for having me.
Edmtrain: Thank you so much for having me!
