A fest that has evolved over a decade, Elements Music & Arts Festival has reached its biggest and most robust incarnation yet. Elements was born in New York City and as it outgrew the venues there, moved nearby to the woods of Pennsylvania. Elements took place this year from August 11 to 14 and it was its second year in Long Pond in the beautiful Poconos. In just a year, the festival has expanded in size and production.

It truly has claimed its title as the Northeast's immersive camping festival. Elements still boasts four major stages fittingly named Earth, Fire, Air and Water. In its smaller years, most of the stages were tucked into the wooded areas and it felt like a boutique festival. This year, the Earth and Fire stages were set up side-by-side in a wide open area, while the Air and Water stages were nestled among the trees. Elements from its inception brought high-profile artists, but brought more than ever before this year. Edmtrain rates this year's Elements as very good. It has retained its core boutique feel without going totally commercial as it ascends in scale and success.
Here are highlights from the festival broken down by stage:
Earth stage
The Earth stage was big and colorful and welcomed some of the biggest artists of the weekend. On Friday, the closer was Ganja White Night, pleasing the many bass-loving attendees. Saturday brought multiple heavy-hitters including Daily Bread, PEEKABOO and LSDREAM.

Many attendees were waiting for Sunday to come around to see two iconic DJs. Rezz returned for back-to-back weekends at Elements. She hypnotized the crowd with her heavy beats and signature goggles. One of the favorite sets of the weekend was undoubtedly Porter Robinson, who closed out the Earth stage. Porter dropped tracks from his "Nurture" album in the first half of his set then went experimental, then played over his allotted 75 minutes and fans couldn't have been happier. He finished with his classics Shelter and Language and it made many attendee's weekend.

Fire stage
The Fire stage is a known favorite among fans who attend Elements every year. This year, it took a similar shape to last year with a triangular shape and sun goddess with arms reaching out. Throughout the weekend, it had fire shooting out into the sky. It got lit from the beginning with John Summit headlining on Friday.

Many fans were anticipating Skrillex's performance to close out the Fire stage on Saturday. Unfortunately, it began raining on and off until the festival was evacuated around 10:30 p.m. Luckily a massive storm did not roll through and the Elements gates reopened shortly after. The campgrounds were quiet as Skrillex put on high-energy show dropping hits including Rumble. It made it all worth it to re-enter the festival.

The sunset set on Saturday was also highly anticipated, as Lane 8 took the stage for an hour-and-a-half. His euphoric beats elevated fans to a heavenly place and many sang along to his well-known tracks including Road and Survive.
Air stage
The Air stage is a refuge for lovers of house music. The stage itself is smaller than the others, a gazebo of sorts, and featured multiple platform structures that attendees could climb on. It welcomed a range of talented artists. On Friday, Tinlicker, who are associated with the Anjunadeep and mau5trap labels, enchanted the crowd in what was a truly highlight performance. The closer was Elderbrook, who mesmerized attendees with his innovative beats with seamless transitions.

Water stage
The Water stage was also smaller compared to the Earth and Fire stages and was a colorful array of shapes. But the dancefloor was extensive and creative with sails and other artsy decorations. It was a popular spot to hang out during the daytime. On Friday, SNBRN delighted the crowd with a house set with a tropical twist.

Final thoughts
Elements pulled out all the stops this year and that was evident with a firework show near the end of Sunday. The fireworks lit up the sky behind the Earth stage and the spectacle lasted a solid five minutes – just when you thought it was ending, it did not.

Every year, Elements is drawing more and more fans and is becoming known as one of the festivals to attend on the east coast. It drew massive attention by bringing some of the hottest acts today including Skrillex and John Summit. Elements also offered a host of activities from sound baths to yoga to crafts at the Wellnest, Funbox, Healing Garden and House of Heart. There is no way to truly describe Elements by comparing it to other events, because it has come into its own.
