ILLENIUM has made history yet again by taking over a football stadium for not one but two nights in Los Angeles. Nick Miller played three sets on February 2 and 3, 2024, at SoFi Stadium, and each night had its own unique moments and both showcased the largest laser show ever at a dance music concert.
It's one thing to sell out an arena like Madison Square Garden – it's another thing to fill out a massive football stadium, and do it for two nights in a row. Not may DJs would be able to achieve that but we watched ILLENIUM do it, and it cements him yet again as indisputably one of the biggest dance music artists of our generation. Edmtrain rates ILLENIUM Trilogy: Los Angeles as stellar.
SoFi Stadium
ILLENIUM made the perfect decision in choosing SoFi Stadium for his third Trilogy series, following up historic installments at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in 2021 and Empower Field in Denver last year. SoFi Stadium opened in late 2020 and is the home of the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams. It has 70,000 fixed seats and can hold up to 100,000 guests factoring in hundreds of luxury suites and the floor space, which was undoubtedly worth the price to see ILLENIUM and the special effects close up.
The stadium features an impressive ovular, dual-sided videoboard that contains 70,000 square feet of digital LED and has 268 speakers. The videoboard was utilized to project ILLENIUM's performance for fans in the higher up seats to see and for those on the floor and lower sections to look up at in awe. A large phoenix representing ILLENIUM's signature logo was installed in the middle of the oval scoreboard, and was a sight to behold throughout the show.
Trilogy: Los Angeles
As presale passes sold out in record time for night one and demand was overwhelming, ILLENIUM announced a second night of his Trilogy series at SoFi Stadium on Saturday. There are plenty of Illenials that attended both nights – and it was sure worth it. Each night had its own special guests.
The Friday show was exciting because there were no spoilers on social media to be seen before attending, and fans there were the first to experience the magic. After Netsky's opening set, ILLENIUM played his first set from a pod near the middle of the floor. That gave not only pit attendees, but floor ticketholders the chance to see ILLENIUM up close. Fans went wild when ILLENIUM brought out Avril Lavigne to perform Eyes Wide Shut off his latest self-titled album.
On Saturday after Trivecta’s opening set, ILLENIUM brought a multitude of special guests for night two. During his first set on the pod on the floor, ILLENIUM invited SLANDER and Krewella to perform their track Lay It Down together. Fans were star-struck seeing the two SLANDER members standing on the stage alongside Krewella belting out the song. ILLENIUM also invited MAX on stage to sing their iconic collab. Beautiful Creatures. After the first set, ILLENIUM walked through an aisle between the pit and floor sections and waved at fans like it was no big deal.
Set two on Saturday saw one of the surprises that ILLENIUM teased leading up to the shows – Seven Lions. Jeff Montalvo joined ILLENIUM on stage at the far end of the stadium and together they dropped their new track that was widely welcomed by the melodic bass community. Seven Lions and ILLENIUM collaborated on the classic Rush Over Me and witnessing them debut their new ID was a real vibe as the two reunited. ILLENIUM also brought GG Magree on stage to sing their new collab with REZZ, and Tori Kelly for Blame Myself. He ended his second set with a crowd favorite, Good Things Fall Apart vs Sad Songs with Said The Sky.
ILLENIUM also played his third set at the far end of the stadium and dropped tracks from his latest album including All That Really Matters with Teddy Swims, Lifeline with jdxn and Insanity with American Teeth. The finale was a glorious mashup of Nightlight, Crawl Outta Love, Sad Songs and From the Ashes. ILLENIUM invited all his singers for each night out on the stage for all the fans to appreciate.
Epic special effects
ILLENIUM’s team pulled out all the stops for Trilogy: Los Angeles. The setup was similar to Trilogy: Colorado with several pods covered with LED screens on the floor that were used to project strobe lights and other effects. Confetti shot out several times and the finale was truly epic with sparklers shooting from the pods, stage and from the roof.
The show was history-making with the greatest amount of laser watts ever used, thanks to Polar Productions. ILLENIUM trusted the company with a giant 270W Laser behind his head – which Polar Productions showed could roast a marshmallow upon contact. All the lasers, pyros and special effects combined to create a production that was A+.
Special moments
Without question, the Trilogy: Los Angeles shows go down as among ILLENIUM's most memorable. He got emotional at the end of his second set, telling the crowd on Saturday night, "Holy s***. So many moments where I'm about to f***ing cry. I love you so much!" ILLENIUM also expressed his gratitude to fans and the crew who made the two historic nights possible on social media:
"TRILOGY LA WAS THE BEST WEEKEND EVER!!! Thank you for being the best fans and creating the best vibes for both nights at @sofistadium . Thank you to my team for absolutely crushing every aspect of this show. Thank you to the artists and musicians sharing the stage with me. Everyone involved absolutely slayed. Love you all sooooo much!"
