Mayan Warrior held a bittersweet final event in New York City on Saturday, marking one if its last-ever showcases after its beloved art car burned down. The Burning Man soundcamp's Farewell Fundraiser unfolded from sunset to sunrise at a premiere open-air sanctuary, the Brooklyn Mirage.
For years, Mayan Warrior brought its full art car to the Big Apple, among other cities worldwide. The art car was tragically destroyed in a fire en route to an event in Mexico earlier this year. Though the iconic art car could not grace the team's community here this year, it was there in spirit as thousands of people celebrated the countless memories it has bestowed for over a decade.

Brooklyn Mirage's recently installed signature video wall – measuring 200 feet wide and 30 feet high with more than 1,000 LEDs and 15K resolution – projected scenes from the Playa to attendees. The decorative centerpiece was the soundcamp's triangle on stage, so the LED wall helped immensely in filling the void where the art car would have stood.

The event, hosted in partnership with the Los Angeles-based event collective Stranger Than, served as a fundraiser to help the group return to the Playa this August, without their art cart. The support for the farewell fundraiser was apparent, as the entire floor and balcony areas of the Mirage were filled with attendees. On Tuesday, Mayan Warrior thanked all its supporters with a message on social media:
"What an incredible weekend that was, our hearts are full. Thank you all for joining us this past Saturday for what was an emotional and nostalgic journey. Seeing the crowd so abundant with love and joy took us back home to the playa where it all started. Home is where the heart is.

"What sparked from an idea out in the shape shifting desert plains has manifested itself into a global outreach uniting a community of doers and dreamers. We are forever grateful for all the love and support we received this past week."
Prior to the event the lineup was unannounced, besides promising to bring a mix of native Mexican and global talent. Mayan Warrior delivered with underground talent. The event started at 8 p.m. and ended at 6 a.m. with roughly two-hour sets by each of the artists. The running order was Illich Mujica, Omri Smadar live, Echonomist, Mano Le Tough and Kaz James to close out. Also inside Kings Hall from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. were two-hour sets by Holder, John Noseda, Serge Devant and Madmotormiquel, in that order.
Mayan Warrior grew from a renegade Burning Man art car to become one of the dance music's most successful touring brands. The team wrapped up its Ten Year Anniversary Tour last year and has one last farewell event on Halloween in Los Angeles. Those who were at the Mirage this past weekend were part of the team's historic last showcase on the East Coast, as the team has said:
"This will complete this phase of the Warrior, making way for new beginnings."
